The deficiency in infrastructure, facilities and monkey catcher, the forest department has not been able to stop the scourge of monkeys that is threatening the urban area. Forest officer for the Division (Delhi) said: “Despite receiving 162 complaints of monkey apprehension this week, our authorities could not capture one single monkey. Rather, they employed other pet animals to scare them away since we do not have the mandatory tools or equipment’s to manage monkeys mence in the city.”
The department has requested to the Municipal Corporation to provide animal trapping vans and staff to tackle the problem.
Department is ignorant regarding treatment of the monkeys. “Even the case that we capture monkeys, where do we put them? There aren’t any rehabilitation facilities within the town,” Officer said. The city’s civic body’s plan to build a rehabilitation center close to Chandni chowk has already failed to meet the date.
“The plan to build monkey’s rehabilitation centers was approved in the year prior and was expected to be completed in the past. But, the deadline was increased until May, upcoming year.” the mayor said.
With absence of animal controller Department is in talks with a monkey catcher in delhi team of other place. “Due to the lack or monkey catchers available in Lucknow We are currently talking to teams from other area along with Gurgaon who will be working alongside the Delhi team to assist us capture monkeys,” Mishra said.
In the moment, the department has just one four-member team that is able to capture wild monkeys that roam around the city.
