Monkey catcher in delhi: The South civic body continues to have problems catching monkeys despite its plans to offer accommodation for monkey catcher. According to officials of the civic body, there is at least one case of monkey bite every day in the capital. Six months ago, the South body offered accommodation to monkey catcher group from Delhi at a badarpur community centre. The hope was that this would growing the monkey-catcher work.
Sharma, MCD director of the veterinary department, stated that the group didn’t catch any monkeys and had to leave within six months. Another official said that the catchers left behind a Rs. 20k electricity cost which South MCD will have pay. Other measures were tried by the civic body to encourage monkey-catchers. These included advertising in newspapers twice as often as other civic bodies, hiring langur handlers and providing food for monkeys at designated feeding areas. The majority of these methods didn’t work. According to the South MCD’s statistics, there have been 4,165 cases of monkey bites this year.
The corporation managed to catch 311 monkeys until July. The corporation was able to capture 623 monkeys last year. Officials from the South body said that catching monkeys takes more resources than they currently have. “We pay the most in the country to catch monkeys, yet we only have one monkey-catcher. We had spent accounts of advertising in newspapers, even providing accommodation to monkey catcher, but all methods nothing worked,” said an official.
